These geodes are from our newest collecting site. Minerals found so far in these geodes include, all quartz types and colors (even some red), calcites (brown, white, pink and angelwing), pyrite, kaolinite, barite, dolomite and all forms and colors of chalcedony.

Cutting Material ( Whole Unopened Geodes )

These whole unopened Keokuk Geodes are mostly thick wall and are perfect for any slab saw. 
You can also open these geodes by hand but it is more difficult than opening thin walled geodes.

Special Opening Instructions for Geode cutting material: If you plan to open these geodes by hand, we recommend a hammer and chisel. First take a regular hammer and strike the geode at least 15 times with a medium pressure and check for a hairline crack after each strike. If a crack forms then insert a screwdriver and pry the geode open. If no crack is present after 15 strikes then we use a metal chisel. Try to get a chisel that is at least half the width of the geodes diameter. Place the chisel at the center of the geode and strike it hard with your hammer
(we use a small 3 pound sledge hammer). Usually after one or two strikes the geode will split in two.
 


Multiple Geodes in Matrix
These are unopened Keokuk geodes that are fused together in their host rock. You can break the geodes apart and then open all of them. You can leave the geodes in the host rock and open one or two or you can leave them just as they are.
Anyway you choose these geodes are fun to work with and make a very nice display.
